Sublimation Printing on Ceramic Tiles

July 10th, 2009 · No Comments

The process for transferring a sublimation image to a ceramic tile is a little bit different from T-shirts printing.

After attached a printed image on the surface of ceramic tile, you have to set the tile at the center of the heat press letting the front side (the side which is attached the image) of the tile down. Doing this way you can prevent the brakeage of the ceramic and can get sharper image. Because by doing this way the image of the transfer paper can contact the whole area of ceramic tile surface with uniform pressure.

And you have to apply much longer time or higher temperature because the heat is applied from the back side of ceramic tile. So you need longer time or higher temperature to accomplish the process successfully. You need a couple of times of test run to get the best time and temperature. After you found the best setting, I recommend you to record the setting time and temperature for later reference.

And I also recommend you to place two or three sheets of paper towel or a Teflon sheet under the ceramic tile. This keeps the rubber surface of heat press clean. In addition, another recommendation is placing a rubber sheet over the ceramic tile. By doing this you can prevent the damage of heat press surface and can apply heat effectively.

If you want to print more than 2 tiles at a same time, you should place the tiles at the symmetrical positions against the center of heat press so you can add the pressure evenly to the tiles.

These are the different points to do the heat press printing to a ceramic tile from the normal T-shirts or mouse pad heat press transfer process.
